BMW S62 “Better Than Stock” Longblock

Our "better than stock" S62 longblock includes using our RMC V40 CNC to deck your core engine block with the front cover attached the minimum amount necessary to correct the deck angles, then using our Sunnen SV-10 to hone the cylinder walls out by .008" to fit the proprietary JE  oversize pistons we install.  We then re-expose the silicone from the aluminum substrate in the cylinder walls until we achieve very specific surface roughness specifications (Ra, Rpk, RvK, Mr1 and Mr2) that exceed those of brand new S62 blocks from BMW.   During this process, two torque plates are installed with the gaskets and fasteners to be used in the final build in order to replicate the substantial distortion  of the Alusil block caused by the cylinder heads once installed.  Specific piston to wall clearances are achieved to accommodate the 2618 alloy used in our JE pistons, which are installed with DLC coated lightweight piston pins made of higher strength steel and Total Seal Alusil compatible rings, gapped to specific tolerances.  Stock rods are reconditioned and installed with ARP2000 bolts, which do NOT change the crush or ovalize the bearings as some argue when torqued to the specific value we use.  The stock crankshaft is checked and straightened if necessary, then polished, and the entire reciprocating assembly balanced to within 1 gram, well above the race industry standard.  Your cylinder heads are decked the minimum amount necessary, and a competition multi-angle valve job is performed on your heads using our Sunnen VGS-20.  New stock valvesprings are installed.  If valve guides are out of spec, they are lined with brass liners or replaced with motorsport quality custom guides, in each case for an additional charge.  Vanos units are completely renovated using Beisan seals and upgraded with the later version of the vanos lockring and washer.  Vanos solenoids have the ridiculous clog-inducing screens removed, are cleaned out and tested under pressure, and reinstalled with new authentic BMW D-rings.  Solder on the solenoid boards is reflowed, and any damaged and irreparable solenoids are replaced at an additional charge.   Your engine is then assembled using authentic BMW bearings that have been WPC treated.  All clearances and other critical specifications--rod bearing, main bearing, piston protrusion, axial movement--are blueprinted and provided to the customer upon request.  All stretch and other one-time use bolts are replaced with authentic BMW bolts, and all guides, tensioners, and chains are replaced with authentic BMW parts (though stay tuned for our upcoming permanent U-shaped guide replacement!).  Your engine is topped off with valve covers freshly powdercoated in wrinkle black and coolant and other pipes in flat black.  All exterior covers and pans are ceramic bead blasted for a new aluminum factory finish.  No part of the engine goes untouched.  Includes a new water pump, thermostat, and related gaskets.  Price below does NOT include the additional core charge of $4k.  See Core Charge Policy for  details.
