The BMW S54 "Club Race" build takes the bore of the S54's cast iron block out to 87.5mm and employs Mahle off-the-shelf 2618 pistons with Mahle rings, either Carrillo or Arrow rods, BMW bearings with WPC treatment, and a straightened and polished stock crankshaft. Cylinder heads are CNC ported and hand finished and lightly polished, and a competition multi-angle valve job is performed on our Sunnen VGS-20. Valves, springs and seats are upgraded to Supertech's lash cap conversion kit, which eliminates the "pucks" or "shims" that BMW uses to set lash and that invariably "spit" at high RPM with race-tested lash caps that slip over the tip of each valve and are custom ground individually to achieve the necessary lash. Schrick 288/280 cams are installed with the corresponding DLC coated rocker arms, and rocker shafts are REM polished. Vanos units are completely refurbished with Beisan seals and upgraded with VAC's billet exhaust hub, BMW S62 vanos springs, and BMW's uprated circlip and washer. Vanos gears are REM polished. Vanos solenoids are replaced with Beisan refurbished solenoids. All tensioners, chains, and guides are replace with new authentic BMW parts, except the upper left guide is replace with Beisan's uprated version. The stock oil pump is rebuilt with REM polished gears or replaced. All exterior covers and pans are ceramic bead blasted for a new aluminum finish. All critical clearances and other specs are blueprinted and provided to the customer upon request. A well-known tuner customer achieved 383whp with an E70 blend on this setup and 370+whp on pump gas. Price below does not include the $2500 core charge if applicable. See the Core Charge Policy for details.
