BMW S62 Longblock | High-Output Naturally Aspirated S62B50 Engine

The Partee Racing high-output BMW S62 longblock is built for enthusiasts who want the legendary character of the S62B50 engine with serious naturally aspirated power, improved durability, and track-capable performance. Designed for BMW E39 M5 and BMW Z8 S62 applications, this package starts with the same proven foundation as our Better Than Stock S62, then adds competition cylinder heads, dBilas 272° billet camshafts, and a purpose-built valvetrain package engineered for high-rpm reliability.

This is not a basic S62 engine rebuild. It is a complete performance-focused S62 long block for owners searching for a properly built BMW S62 engine for sale. One that keeps the soul of the factory Motorsport V8 while unlocking the airflow, camshaft profile, and supporting hardware needed for real naturally aspirated power.

Built for Reliable S62 Street and Track Performance

Every high-output Partee Racing S62 longblock begins with our proven shortblock assembly, the same bulletproof foundation used in our Better Than Stock S62 program. From there, we add our competition cylinder head package, which is CNC ported, hand-finished, and clearanced for larger cam lobes.

That clearancing step matters. On the BMW S62, proper cylinder head clearance is required for any serious camshaft upgrade. We do the machine work correctly so the engine can take full advantage of the dBilas 272° billet cams without sacrificing reliability.

Competition Cylinder Heads and Upgraded Valvetrain

The cylinder heads are CNC ported for improved airflow, then finished and lightly polished by hand. Valves are reconditioned and back cut to improve flow and sealing, while the rest of the valvetrain is upgraded with Partee Racing custom components.

This S62 performance longblock includes:

  • Competition CNC-ported S62 cylinder heads
  • Hand-finished and lightly polished ports
  • dBilas 272° duration billet camshafts
  • Cylinder head clearancing for larger cam lobes
  • Reconditioned and back-cut valves
  • Partee Racing proprietary valve springs
  • Titanium retainers
  • Upgraded valve seats
  • Precision assembly for high-output naturally aspirated performance

If the valve guides are out of specification, we replace them with motorsport-quality custom guides made from Moldstar 90 for an additional charge.

435 to 460 WHP Naturally Aspirated S62 Capability

When paired with Partee Racing carbon fiber velocity stacks, quality headers, a high-flowing exhaust system with catalytic converters, and the matching Partee Racing tune, this high-output BMW S62 engine package is capable of approximately 435–460 wheel horsepower.

Yes, wheel horsepower. Uncorrected on a dynojet.

Final output depends on supporting modifications, exhaust configuration, fuel quality, tuning, dyno type, and vehicle condition, but this package is designed for the S62 owner who wants real naturally aspirated performance without turning the car into an unreliable science project.

The Right S62 Engine for Serious E39 M5 and Z8 Owners

Whether you are refreshing a tired E39 M5 engine, building a street-and-track S62, replacing a failed BMW S62B50, or searching for the best built S62 longblock available, this package is designed to deliver the power, throttle response, and reliability the platform deserves.

The factory S62 is already one of BMW M’s most iconic engines. Our high-output longblock keeps the naturally aspirated V8 character intact while adding the cylinder head flow, camshaft profile, valvetrain stability, and assembly quality needed for a stronger, sharper, more capable S62.

FAQ Section

Is this a complete BMW S62 engine?

This is a high-output S62 longblock, not a generic used engine or basic crate engine. It includes the built shortblock, competition cylinder heads, camshafts, and upgraded valvetrain components described above. Supporting components such as intake, headers, exhaust, tuning, accessories, and VANOS configuration should be confirmed at the time of purchase.

What BMW models use the S62 engine?

The BMW S62B50 is best known as the Motorsport V8 used in the E39 M5 and BMW Z8. This Partee Racing S62 longblock is built for those S62 applications.

How much power does this S62 longblock make?

With the proper supporting hardware such as Partee Racing carbon fiber velocity stacks, headers, high-flow exhaust, and a matching Partee Racing tune, this package is capable of approximately 435–460 WHP.

Why do the S62 cylinder heads need to be clearanced for cams?

The BMW S62 requires cylinder head clearancing when moving to larger cam lobes. Our competition cylinder heads are clearanced correctly as part of the build, which is essential for a proper S62 camshaft upgrade.

Is this S62 engine streetable?

Yes. This package is designed for high-output naturally aspirated S62 street and track performance. It is built to deliver serious power while preserving the reliability and character that make the BMW S62 platform special.

Do I need to send in a core?

Yes. The listed price does not include the core charge. The core charge is $4,000 without VANOS if you supply two S62 VANOS units with solenoid boards, or $5,500 with VANOS if you supply nothing.

If you send us your motor in advance, there is no core charge, provided it is in rebuildable form (without sleeving, welding, or other extraordinary measures) as we determine in our reasonable discretion.  If, in contrast, you do not send us your engine in advance, then you have to pay the applicable core charge, then ship your core engine to us within two weeks of receiving your engine build, and if we determine your core to be rebuildable, we will then refund your core charge.  You will not receive a refund of of your core charge if we determine that the core you ship us is not rebuildable without sleeving, welding or other extraordinary measures , as determined in our reasonable discretion.  The amount of the core charge varies by engine model and is stated in the product description for each engine build.
